THE ANGEL OF THE LORD

DANIEL, REVELATION, ZECHARIAH

THE "ANGEL" OF THE LORD

(HIS OR HER, "ANGEL")

"ANGEL-(Heb. Mal'ak, Messenger",..) – A SUPERNATURAL being created by God, superior to man, and acting as a representative or messenger of God. There are Bible passages where Mal'ak and aggelos DO NOT refer to supernatural beings, but to PROPHETS and OTHERS fulfilling the function of "Messenger" (2 Sa 3:14; Eze 23:16; Hag. 1:13; Mt 11:10; LK 7:24; etc.) There are other passages where the terms seem to apply- to Christ Himself (Ex 23:20; Mal 3:1; Acts 7:35). THE SPECIFIC REFERENCES IN ANY CASE MUST BE FOUND BY STUDY OF THE CONTEXT.

"The "ANGEL OF THE LORD" is thus a messenger of the Lord (male or female), not only in the sense that he (or she) belong, to the Lord and is faithful to Him, but more particularly in the sense that he (or she) comes as a messenger sent BY God, with a message FROM God." (SDA Bible Dictionary). Clearly then, a person with a message from God may be termed the "ANGEL OF THE LORD", male or female–God's messenger, or PERSONAL Representative on Earth–to PERSONIFY The Heavenly beings–The TRINITY, or the Angels.

In Genesis 1:26,27 the FIRST Adam and Eve were made in the Image of Christ, male and female, John 1:1- 3:10,14, the creators of all things and were types of the SECOND Adam–male and female (1 John 1:1-3).

"And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creeping things, and (wild) beasts of the earth according to their kinds and it was so.

"God said, Let US (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) make MANKIND in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let THEM have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the (tame) beasts, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth (Heb. 11:3; 1:2; Ps. 104:30)."

"So God created man in His own image, in the IMAGE and LIKENESS of God created He him: MALE and female He created THEM. (Col. 3:9,10; James 3:8,9).

"And God blessed THEM and said to THEM, be fruitful and multiply...and (to both) have dominion...(Two rulers) Gen. 1:25-28; Col. 1:26; 3:10.

"In the beginning (before all time) was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God himself. (Isa. 9:6.)

"He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

"He came into the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him--did not know Him.

"He came to that which belonged to Him--to His own (domain, creation, things, world)--and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him.

"But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in-- adhere to, trust in and rely on--His name; (Isa. 56:5).

"Who owe their birth neither to bloods, nor to the will of the flesh (that of physical impulse), nor to the will of man (that of a natural father), but to God--they are born of God!

"And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled--fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile--among us; and we (actually) saw HIS glory--His honor, His majesty; such glory as an only BEGOTTEN SON receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving kindness) and truth. (Isa 40:5).

"No man has ever seen God at any time; the only unique Son, the only BEGOTTEN GOD, Who is in the BOSOM (that is, in the INTIMATE PRESENCE) of the Father, He has declared Him--He has revealed Him, brought Him out where He can be seen; He has interpreted Him, and He has made Him known. (Prov. 8:30) John 1:1,2,11-14,18. A.V.

"Thus it is written, The first man Adam became a living being--an individual personality; the last Adam (Christ) became a life-giving spirit--restoring the dead to life.

"But (it is) not the spiritual life which came first, but the physical and then the spiritual.

"The first man (was) from out of earth, made of dust--earth-minded; the second Man (is) the Lord from out of heaven. (Gen. 2:7.)

"Now those who are made of the dust are like him who was first made of the dust--earth minded, and as is (the Man) from heaven, so also (are those) who are of heaven--heaven minded.

"And just as we have borne the image of the (man) of dust, so shall we; and so let us also bear the image of the (Man) of heaven. 1 Cor. 15:45-49. Amplified Version.

Being the creators (Male and Female) of the first Adam and Eve (male and female) one must conclude that Christ and His Spirit (2 Pet. 1:11; Romans 8:9-16) are the EVERLASTING parents of the whole human race beginning with Adam and Eve to the present time (Isa. 9:6).

As in Heaven; so in earth. The union of the masculine and feminine principle creates, brings forth according to kind--male and female as in the natural (Romans 1:20); so, in the spiritual, there can be no EVERLASTING FATHER without an EVERLASTING MOTHER to bring forth fruit–a new creation.

The doctrine of angels did not occupy the central theme in the Old Testament. But it furnished valuable insight into God's provision for the care, comfort, and instruction to His prophets and people. It enhances one's concept of the sacredness and majesty of God and causes His people to rejoice over the divine help God furnishes the earth's inhabitants through the angel guardians, helpers, and mediators.

The ANGEL of the Lord definitely has Christlike attributes: Messiah, Mediator, Intercessor–and carries all the titles of Christ, but is NOT Christ. Scholars call the ANGEL of the Lord a "type" or "shadow" of Jesus Christ.

This ANGELIC FIGURE stands out prominently among the angel appearances in the Old and New Testaments. Bible scholars have not been able to make one unified determination as to the real identity of Mak'ak Yahveh (Hebrew). This ANGEL stands out as very different from the angels in general mentioned in the Bible and known by the writers of BOTH the Old and New Testaments.

This heavenly being always appears for a SPECIAL EVENT and takes THE place of prominence in the center of the event (11 Sam. 14:20).

In the Old Testament the ANGEL of the Lord appeared to Daniel as a beneficent messenger in whose WISDOM one can safely confide.

This ANGEL fights against Israel's enemies 1 Kings 19:35); helps God's prophets (1 Kings 19:7;21,22,25-35) confronts the hostile sorcerers (Num. 22:22-26); and protects and guides the nation of Israel (Ex. 14:19,20; 23:20-23).

The Scripture references in which the ANGEL of the Lord (Yahveh) appears are the ones which do not distinguish between the ANGEL of the Lord (Yahveh) and the PERSON of the Lord (Yahveh); for example in Gen. 16, during Hagar's flight from Sarah, the ANGEL of the Lord (Yahveh) found her (Verse 7) and talked with her. During the conversation, the Angel refers to the Lord (Yahveh) Himself in the THIRD PERSON (V. 11). But the ANGEL also spoke "as if" he were the Lord Himself: "I will greatly multiply your descendants that they cannot be numbered for multitude" (V. 10). In Verse thirteen, "She called the name of the Lord (Yahveh) who spoke to her--"Have I REALLY seen God and remained alive after seeing Him?"

Gen. 21--During her second flight the ANGEL of God (Yahveh) called to her from heaven. Also, in this passage of Scripture, the ANGEL spoke as if he were the Lord Himself: For I will make him a great nation." (V. 19).

Gen. 22--The sacrifice of Isaac: just before Abraham killed Isaac, the ANGEL of the Lord (Yahveh) stopped him (V. 11) and told him: "For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me." (V. 12).

Gen 31:11-13--"Then the ANGEL of God said to me in a dream, Jacob, and I said, Here am I, and he said, "Lift up your eyes--I am the God of Bethel:

Ex. 3--"The ANGEL of the Lord appeared to Moses in a burning bush, and the following conversation is between the Lord and Moses.

Ex. 14--THE RED SEA--"and the ANGEL of God went before the army of Israel (V. 19). The Lord in the pillar of fire AND cloud went before Israel (V. 24).

JUDGES 2:1--"The ANGEL of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bechim and he said, "I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you into the land which I swore to give to your fathers."

JUDGES 6:11--"The ANGEL of the Lord came and sat under the oak at Ophrah (V. 11)." But during the course of the conversation, the Lord turned to him and said...(V. 14).

The treatment of these Verses by the commentators is varied and contradictory because it has not been time until now for the truth to be revealed.

Not until after the revelation of the PERSONHOOD and GENDER of the Holy Spirit could this being be revealed by Inspiration.

In the human family the wife or a daughter is often referred to as an ANGEL, in endearing terms. "6. A PERSON like an ANGEL in goodness...or loveliness"– Webster. As in the earthly family, so also, in the heavenly. The ANGEL of the Lord, is the Lord's Angel.

In the earthly family, Eve was Adam's angel in that she was an extension of him and identified with him by the same name, Adam--himself, in the second person, ANOTHER Adam, female (Gen. 5:1,2). Adam was ONE (head) with his "rib" until God, through an operation of the Spirit, separated his rib (Eve) from him. God joined them (two heads) together again "as one", but TWO separate beings, each having an HEAD. Therefore, the SECOND Adam has a counterpart, One identified with Himself and with His SAME NAME (John 14:26) but separate from Him.

"But the COMFORTER, which is the Holy Ghost, WHOM THE FATHER WILL SEND IN MY "NAME" he (she) shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have 'said unto you". John 14:26. Clearly, the Holy Ghost carries the same name as Christ–Both being sent from the Heavenly Father and Mother as intercessors between Heaven and earth.

In the natural earthly marriage relationship you do not have a masculine person with a feminine body; rather, you have a masculine PERSON joined with a feminine PERSON who in SPIRITUAL TERMS, brings forth children who are (male and female) equivalent to the "body" of believers who know and are acquainted with who their mother and father are. A family–Father, Mother, Children–born of the Spirit.

THEREFORE THE REFERENCE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT, ESPECIALLY, REGARDING THE "ANGEL OF THE LORD (YASHUAH) HAS A VERY SPECIAL MEANING, HERETOFORE, UNKNOWN; THAT IS, NOT REVEALED BY INSPIRATION.

Actually the ANGEL of the Lord is NOT a created being, but the Divine being himself (Herself); in the FIRST instance, (revelation), the SECOND person of the Godhead in the order of creation, in the second instance, an IMAGE or likeness, of the second Person of the Godhead in the same order.

Reasons:

1. The ANGEL explicitly identifies with the Lord on different occasions.

Z. Those to whom He (SHE) makes his (HER) PRESENCE known recognize him (HER) as DIVINE.

3. The writers of Scripture call him (HER) Yahveh.

4. The "doctrine" here implied of a plurality of persons in the Godhead is in complete accordance with the TOTAL revelation of God.

Finally:

5. The unity of the Scriptures would be violated if it could be proved that the central point (This ANGEL) in the Old Testament revelation was a created angel, while the New Testament shows the ANGEL to be the incarnation of the second Person of the Godhead (in the order of creation) (in human form, at times) to instruct God's prophets in the mysteries of the Holy Ghost Who is SYMBOLIZED by Gabriel with Michael, the archangel on the mercy seat, in the Holy of Holies.

This is the representation with which most commentators are NOT familiar who show the ANGEL of the Lord to be ONLY a created heavenly being–an ANGEL sent from on high, on divine missions to men and women and who takes the place of God in his dealings with mankind. The ANGEL may speak the divine "I", and ALMOST be identified with God himself; yet, the ANGEL of the Lord is really and truly a manifestation or extension of God as was Eve of the first Adam (the type)–"a likeness." The ANGEL is "a FORM" in which God appears. He (She) is God Himself (Herself) in HUMAN FORM.

The FIRST ADAM and Eve were types of the SECOND Adam (Male and female) in the flesh (1 Cor. 15:45,47,49)–Hence, two mediators, two Messiahs, Two HEADS, two High Priests, Two Teachers of Righteousness, Two Angels, Two INTERCESSORY Members of the Godhead-- The LORD and HIS SPIRIT (ANGEL)--Male and Female, Priests of the Most High God--Amen and Amen!

As the Hebrew religion developed, under the influence of the surrounding heathen religions their concept of God became more pronounced as being the one, all powerful God and within this development of thought they saw the ANGEL of the Lord as a transitional MODE of appearance BETWEEN the direct revelation of God, and His withdrawal into the secret place–at a distance. We have to take into account other Biblical references concerning the ANGEL of the Lord who appears in other various forms, in a flame, a dream, a cloud (Rev. 10), as thunder, as well as in HUMAN FORM (SL p. 51). But the principal view of the ANGEL has to do with passages where there is a DEFINITE distinction made between the ANGEL and the Lord; where TWO different PERSONALITIES are involved. The ancients saw in the ANGEL of God the operation of God Himself in a manner more direct than could be accomplished through any other heavenly being. The ANGEL was an occasional manifestation of God, spoken of sometimes "as" God Himself but at other times as distinct from Him. The borderline between the ANGEL of the Lord as a specific MEDIUM of Divine revelation and as a created messenger cannot always be discerned except through the "eye" of inspiration.

We have in the past been schooled in the progressive character of Divine Revelation in greater or lesser degrees but never have we been called upon, before now, to stretch our minds to the utmost to discern the ministry of the Angels in the time of the end of all things.

The keys are found in the Books of Daniel and Revelation as brought forth by the latter day revelation of the Spirit of Prophecy.

For example, in the Book of Daniel, angels were given names for the first time in the Scriptures (Dan. 8:13,16; 9:21; Dan. 10:21; 10:13,20,21; 12:1), Gabriel, Michael, and Palmoni (Dan. 8:13).

As sin increased, God became more and more aloof from contact with the created beings of earth and the doctrine of angels became more and more pronounced. The angels brought the animals, etc. into the ark; the "Angel" stayed at the home of Abraham: the Angel walked with Daniel and the three Hebrews in the fiery furnace, etc.

THE "ANGEL" OF THE LORD

IN ZECHARIAH

"Written words can be misconstrued: but SYMBOLS cannot. Thus making it possible for both learned, and unlearned, to immediately distinguish the difference between truth and error." 2 S.R. p. 288.0.

"While the enemy has succeeded in confusing the written word, God lightens the earth with HIS GLORY (Holy Spirit) by these SYMBOLIC revelations, and by which He discloses the ENTIRE TRUTH and uncovers the traps of the devil. Thus through TYPES and SYMBOLS He makes wise the simple and confounds the prudent by showing that where there is NO TYPE, there is NO TRUTH.

The reason these wonders are portrayed by SYMBOLS is the same as that which caused Christ to teach in parables (Matt. 13:10,11)" 2 S.R. pp 10,11.

THE LORD AND HIS ANGEL

"I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom: and BEHIND him were red horses, speckled, and white.

"Then said I, O my Lord, what are these? and the ANGEL that talked with me said unto me, I will show thee what these be.

"And the MAN THAT STOOD AMONG THE MYRTLE TREES ANSWERED and said, These are they whom the Lord hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. And they (the horses) answered the ANGEL of the Lord that STOOD AMONG THE MYRTLE TREES, and said, we HAVE walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, ALL the earth sitteth still and is at rest." Zech. 1:8-11.

Thus far, we have the MAN (The Lord) who stood among the myrtle trees (Verse 8) and the ANGEL of the Lord who STOOD AMONG THE MYRTLE TREES (V. 11). But in verse twelve it is clearly seen that the LORD and the ANGEL are TWO different beings.

"THEN the ANGEL of the Lord answered and said, O LORD OF HOSTS, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these three score and ten years. (Dan 8:13) The same question that was uppermost in Daniel's mind was asked in Zech. 1:12–"How long"? (Jer. 29:10).

"And the LORD answered the ANGEL that talked with me with good words and comfortable words. So the ANGEL that communed with me, said unto me, Cry thou crying, THUS SAYETH THE LORD OF HOSTS: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

"Therefore thus saith the LORD, I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, SAITH THE LORD OF HOSTS, and (the prophecy) a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.

"Cry yet (again, Zechariah), Thus SAITH the LORD OF HOSTS; my cities through prosperity shall be spread abroad; and the Lord shall yet choose Jerusalem.

"And I said unto the ANGEL that talked with me, what be these? and HE answered me, these are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

"Then said I, what come these to do? And He (The Lord) spoke saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it." Zech. 1:8-21.

ZECHARIAH TWO

"I lifted up mine eyes AGAIN, and looked, and behold a man with a MEASURING LINE in his hand (fulfillment of the prophecy Chapt. 1:16). Then said I, whither goest thou? And he (The Man) said unto me To measure (judge) Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

And, behold, THE ANGEL THAT TALKED WITH ME WENT FORTH, and "ANOTHER" ANGEL went out TO MEET HIM. Thus we see the "Man", the Angel, and "Another" Angel in Zechariah as in Daniel.

And said unto him, run and speak to this YOUNG man (Zechariah), saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited AS TOWNS "WITHOUT" WALLS (not measured) for the multitude of men and cattle therein (cannot be measured). (Ez. 38:11).

"FOR "I", saith the LORD OF HOSTS WILL BE unto HER A WALL of FIRE (a signal fire) round about (a circle) and will be THE GLORY in the midst of HER.

"Deliver THYSELF, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon (The Wilderness–Hosea 2:14,15; 3:3) for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of my (the Lord's) eye. (Deut 32:10,11)

"Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come saith the Lord and will dwell in the midst of thee..."

"And the Lord shall inherit Judah his portion in the Holy Land, and shall choose Jerusalem AGAIN.

"Be silent O, all flesh, before the Lord: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation. Zech. 2:1-13.

ZECHARIAH THREE

And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the ANGEL OF THE LORD (His Angel) and Satan standing at his (the angel's) right hand to resist him.

"And the LORD SAID unto Satan, (I) The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan, even the Lord that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee...(Jude 9).

Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the ANGEL (of the Lord).

"...and the ANGEL of the Lord stood by.

Hear now, O Joshua, the High Priest, thou and thy fellows that sit before thee:...behold I will bring forth (resurrect) my servant the BRANCH.

"For behold the STONE that I have laid before Joshua: upon ONE STONE shall be SEVEN eyes: behold I will grave the graving thereof, saith the LORD OF HOSTS, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in ONE day. Verse 3.

"The "ONE STONE"–the church (with a woman as her representative) shall have complete vision of HEAVENLY glory: For behold the STONE (church–woman) that I HAVE laid before Joshua: upon ONE stone shall be seven eyes: behold,...

"And in that day will I make Jerusalem (The Church–WOMAN) a BURDENSOME STONE for all people: all that burden themselves with it (her) shall be cut to pieces, though all people of the earth be gathered together against it (her) shall be cut to pieces...Zech. 12:3.

"Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Sing and rejoice O daughter of Zion: for lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of THEE, saith the Lord. (Zech 2:10) 2 S.R. 286-7.

ZECHARIAH FOUR

"This golden candlestick is the most remarkable SYMBOL in the Bible pertaining to the church (The Woman) of God. "Its arrangement...reveals that the last section of God's church, is to be the most glorious church in all ages. This CONTINUED communication by the HOLY SPIRIT to the church...is to bring every part of the entire body in perfect harmony; a church without guile.

"This prophetic SYMBOL unmistakably points forward to a HEAVENLY AGENCY absorbing human weakness and imperfection into everlasting glory. "A glorious church (woman), not having spot (Jude 12) or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Eph. 5:27) Amen.

"To this candlestick (Church–Woman) is the promise: BEHOLD I WILL MAKE THEE A NEW SHARP THRESHING INSTRUMENT HAVING TEETH: THOU SHALT THRESH THE MOUNTAINS (CHURCHES) and BEAT THEM SMALL, AND SHALT MAKE THE HILLS AS CHAFF. (Isa. 41-15)" 2 SR p. 286-7. Amen and Amen.

SUMMARY

The law of nature employs the combination of the masculine, feminine principle in creation–bringing forth life, energy. Hence, in the time, of the restitution of all things the same law would obtain in restoring the IMAGE of God in mankind.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork Ps. 19:1. (Heaven and earth declare God's glory!).

The Heavens are the abode of the myriads of angels (symbolized by the stars) employed in the redemption of God's lost creation. Therefore, the angels created in the IMAGE of God male and female, in the heavens, declare the glorious truth about God and are in constant touch with both earth and heaven to convey light and comfort to mankind.

The angels first fell captive to Satan's deceptions and we may look to the TYPE of the fall of angels as agencies now to guide in the work for fallen man.

The first named angels in the Bible came to Daniel's attention when the archangels, Michael and Gabriel, strowe with the Prince of Persia, Cyrus, to cause s right decision concerning permission for the return of the children of Israel after the seventy years captivity in Babylon. In the earthly realm, the first NAMED beings created in the IMAGE of God male and female, were Adam and Eve–two Adams (Gen. 5:1,2), one, Eve, an extension of Adam–his rib–same name. Michael and Gabriel as shown on the mercy seat in the holy of holies were SYMBOLS of HEAVEN'S intercessors between God and the fallen angels. Adam and Eve were symbols of EARTH'S intercessors (The BRANCH HE and SHE) for fallen mankind (made a little lower than the angels). Thus we see a chain of continuous intercession, celestial and terrestrial, for those subjected to Satan's snares.

The loyal angels made in the image of God who resisted and overcame the wiles of Satan received their Glory in heaven and immortality–never to die as those who followed Satan in his rebellion against God's just Law.

Likewise each one on earth who escape the tempters sophistry will receive his glory and life eternally without death.

The ANGEL of the Lord is an extension of himself (feminine) as Eve was of Adam and bears the same name (John 14:26)–Feminine. Therefore the ANGEL of the Lord before WHOM Joshua, the High Priest, stands IS the Lord's angel–Feminine.

The Lord of Hosts comes with the ANGEL of the Lord to execute Judgment upon the ungodly (Jude 19-21; Rom. 1:21-31). As it was in heaven Satan attempted to usurp the office of the Spirit of prophecy but She (Rev. 14:17) surprises him and his angels, followers by appearing as an IMAGE (Ghost) of the heavenly Mother (Rev. 14:18) who tells Her to reap (with a sickle–new threshing instrument) the harvest of grapes (V. 18) that are fully ripe, and to cast the vine with the bad grapes (V. 19) into the winepress of the wrath of God". Rev. 14:18,19.

CONCLUSION

The Lord and His angel are TWO different beings. Both Divine--uncreated. His angel appears in "human form"–Divine and created, whatever the occasion demands. Amen.

"THINK IT THROUGH"

Though advanced in age and separated from their brethren, God's servants may enjoy the companionship of God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the angelic host.

Both John and Daniel received more important communication from heaven, than during their lifetime after growing old in the service of the Lord. God honors His faithful servants without respect to age.

"The most glorious truth, concerning the last chapters of this earth's history were given to the aged disciple whom Jesus loved." (MS 109, 1897). Likewise, it was Daniel to whom Gabriel said in his last years: "for thou art greatly beloved." Therefore, understand..."Dan 9:23. In this instance it was Daniel having the vision and an ANGEL of GOD coming to give him understanding. In his earlier years it was Daniel giving the interpretation of visions.

Both disciples were highly honored by heaven in having the angelic ministry to guide their understanding of the visions given them by God in the revelation of His plans for the future.

Though left alone by family and brethren, those long in the service of God, may be comforted by communication with the heavenly family that transcends that of the closest of earthly relationships.

None, need feel alone and unappreciated while basking in the atmosphere of heavenly communion.

The race is not always to the young and the swift, but to those who persevere regardless of age or infirmity.

Abraham and Sarah realized the promise of God in their later years after severe trial and long writing. Jacob was not young when he was permitted to return to the promised land. "When John was exiled to the Isle of Patmos, there were many who thought him to be past service, an old and broken reed ready to fall at any time. But the Lord saw fit to use him..." Christ's servants who are true and faithful may be unrecognized, and unhonored by men...but...They will not be forgotten by God. He will honor them by His PRESENCE...(because of their faithfulness). MS 109, 1897.

CONCLUSION

The Lord and His ANGEL are TWO different beings – BOTH DIVINE... UNCREATED. HIS ANGEL appears in "human form" – DIVINE and created; whatever the occasion demands, ALWAYS with the LORD of HOSTS. Amen.

ZECHARIAH 1-3

SUMMARY

In times past, we have considered only the CIVIL aspect of Zechariah 1:8-21. But the real meaning is found in the religious understanding as stated repeatedly by the messenger of the Holy Spirit.

However, we could not have understood the full meaning, at any time previously, until NOW when the revelation of the "ANGEL of the Lord" as a member of the Godhead is made known.

The captivity of Israel by Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome, FOUR earthly CIVIL powers, was but the means that the ruling power of heaven (FOUR HORNS) employed to chasten Israel for her sins of idolatry and neglect to give to God the Glory for Their beneficent care and provision to exalt the Nation above all the Kingdoms of earth. "And the Lord (the carpenter) shewed me FOUR carpenters" Zech. 1:20. Then said I, what come these to do? And He (The Lord) spoke, saying, THESE (carpenters) ARE the (FOUR) HORNS – rulers which have scattered JUDAH so, that no man did lift up his head: (Is it not so, NOW, in Judah?) "But these (FOUR HORNS) are (NOW) come to fray them, to cast out the horns (rulers) of the Gentiles (in the church), which lifted up their horn (hand to rule) over the land of Judah." V. 21.

ANOTHER, "The ANGEL of the Lord," spoke to the "young man," saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited "as towns WITHOUT WALLS" for the multitude of men and cattle therein: Zech. 2:3. That is, you have gone far enough, "young man." For: "I" (the ANGEL of the Lord) saith (to the Angel that talked with Zechariah), the Lord will be unto HER (Judah – Jerusalem) a "WALL" of "fire" (the signal fire) round (encircling) about and will be the GLORY in the midst of thee (HER – Jerusalem). Notice, the angel (Zechariah's interpreter) who "went forth" WAS MET BY "ANOTHER" ANGEL Who ASKED, WHERE ARE YOU GOING? and stopped him with a "MESSAGE" Zech. 2:3.

This Angel, Vs. 5, said he (SHE) was the Lord; that is the ANGEL of the Lord, Verse 3, a DIVINE PERSONALITY (S.L. p. 51).

12

This time, Jerusalem is to be made really impregnable, safe! "In Zechariah's vision the young man hardly set up to measure Jerusalem when a startling MESSAGE from HEAVEN was sent to him, that the city was to be built "WITHOUT WALLS)" signifying that no one was to be shut out, and that so many people would wish to live in the community which was "to be" the "apple of God's eye," that "no limit," could be set; because GOD WOULD BE THE DEFENSE. This projects God's church of the very near future.

As churches, today, we seem to be more concerned to "protect" the truth we presume "ourselves to possess" by setting up restrictive "defenses" about it. There is no more divisions or isolationism among the Nations of the world than in the "professed churches of God." People are not free to come within the walls which each sect "creates" unless their credentials have received the "official stamp" by the religious heads of the church body. WHY DO WE THINK WE CAN FIT GOD INTO THE "STRAIT JACKET" of our narrow ecclesiastical concepts? There is a suspicion that our "man made" "walls" close God "out," not "in." THE DEFENSE OF GOD'S TRUTH IS GOD'S BUSINESS NOT OURS! There seems more concern to "defend" the sacred, than to PRESENT it; more worry and anxiety lest the truth be "DESECRATED" than REVEALED. The result; we are SO concerned with keeping people out; while God's whole concern is to bring people in to HIS fellowship as well as ours. God emphasizes the things that "unite," but we emphasize the things that "divide."

In the confusions of our petty ecclesiastical debates we fail to hear God's "continual" demand, LET MY PEOPLE COME TOGETHER!

If we were more concerned to "REVEAL" the TRUTH we see we would not have to "defend" it. Any "so-called" truth that puny man can destroy, should be; for it obviously is no truth at all. Man can no more destroy God's truth than can they its Author. We cannot defend God's truth because we are not equipped. We are "only" equipped to REVEAL it.

How can we, now so miserably divided, minister to a doomed world unless we can manifest a Spirit of unity within ourselves and help to "level," balance, the political, economic and ideological "walls" that bring death, not life; conflict, not peace; defeat, not victory, for the world.

How futile -- "man made walls!" Ancient Jericho, Modern China, France --?

Instead of "walls," let us become skillful in building "bridges" to bring the people into the Divine fellowship of God and the Angels.

ZECHARIAH 3

"And he showed me Joshua (with the same name as the Lord – Heb. Yashua, His earthly representative) standing before the ANGEL of the Lord (who has the same name as the Lord. Jeremiah 33:15, 16).

Verse 3 "... and (Joshua) stood before the ANGEL (of the Lord WHO said). "Take away the filthy garments." "... I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with a change of raiment (another new message). Verses 1, 3, 4.

"... Let them set a fair mitre on his head, ... and clothed him with garments (Truths) ... AND THE ANGEL OF THE LORD stood by." Verse 5.

In chapters three, four, six, eight and ten is depicted the restoration of the temple, its services and the people with a DUAL leadership -- A "stone" with seven eyes, a glorious "candlestick," "The Branch," "restoration of Jerusalem," and "redemption of the people." Note: "We now understand the real meaning of Zech. 3:2.

"And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD (the angel of the Lord – the Holy Ghost), rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord (Divine Presence) that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: ... Read Zech. 2:5-12. "Be silent (Your who have been shooting out the lip at my mother, and shut your mouths), O All flesh (those carnal) before the Lord (The Holy Ghost); for he (SHE) is raised UP OUT of his (HER) Holy habitation (Temple)" – To execute judgment and justice in the Land of Judah. Read Ex. 23:20-23.

In the book of Zechariah, prominence is given to Angelic figures to emphasize the lofty character of God. The angel appearances exceed in number those mentioned in Daniel. Reference is made to the angel who interprets Zechariah's visions to him. In 1:11; 3:1, the "ANGEL of the Lord" APPEARS. Also, other angelic beings appear in 1:11, "as horsemen." In 3:4, angels attend the "ANGEL of the Lord," and carry out his (HER) instructions.

The first mention of Satan, the fallen angel, is in 3:1-2; the second, in Job. He takes the proper names Satan, in 1 Chronicles 21:1.

It is interesting to see the "dual" leadership as exemplified in Joshua (Priest) and Zerubabel (king – Messiah), both "anointed ones" who prefigured Christ, the Messiah, and the Holy Ghost, Messiah, in A.D 31 – TWO INTERCESSORS, Male and Female.

The hands of Zerubabel (Holy Ghost) began the building of the temple and "the hands of Zerubabel shall finish it" on the "latter day" PENTECOST. Amen.
