What's New?
That everyone who thirsteth for the truth may obtain it, these publications are, as a Christian service, provided without charge. They levy but one exaction: the soul's obligation to itself to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good. The only strings attached to this free proffer are the golden strands of Eden and the crimson cords of Calvary - the ties that bind.

"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse,
and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. Isa. 11:1"

LESSON NO. 55-7-1958
(Revised – 1967)

THE BRANCH in the Light of Zechariah 1 and 2.

The 3rd Angel's Message in the light of the four-fold symbolism of Zech 1:7-17 and the three-fold symbolism of Zechariah 2:1-5.

To identify each fold of these two symbolisms and show that the "fourth-fold" and "third-fold" represent THE BRANCH as it joins the third angel of 1844.

Gem Thought:

"The true understanding of these messages is of vital importance. The destiny of souls hangs upon the manner in which they are received." E.W., pages 258-259. Thank God for "These messages (3 Angels) anchor...Those who understand and receive them will be kept from being swept away by the many delusions of Satan." E.W. 256:2.

"While the enemy has succeeded in confusing the written Word, God lightens the earth with His glory by these symbolic revelations; and by which He discloses the entire truth and uncovers the traps of the devil!" 2 S.R. page 10.

Zechariah 1 – Four-fold Symbolism:

1.  3 horses.................................verse 8

Verses 7-17 disclose three groups:

2.  Zechariah and the angel...........verse 9

3.  Man on red horse....................verse 8

Group 1:   According to "Why Perish", Tract #6, pages 60-66.

Horses represent messages and movements

Horses "walk" throughout the earth three times.

First time:

Horses represent Millerite movement as it warned the earth of "the end" and then came to rest, thinking the work finished.

Second time:
(1844 – on)

After the disappointment, the horses were told to "cry again" (Zechariah 1:17), or to prophesy again (Rev. 10:11).

"...its (S.D.A.) 1844 commission, was not to 'all' (nations), but simply to 'many',..." Tract #6, p. 66.

Third time:

"Necessarily, then, it must receive another commission, one to go to 'all nations'." Tract #6, p. 66, para. 1.

"There is,…another message; join the Third Angel" -- three horses. Tract #6, p. 66, para. 2.

E.W. 277 and T.M. 300 describe Angel of Rev. 18:1, who directs three horses on their third walk.

Is the "addition" that joins the "three horses" and subsequently directs their walk to all nations, represented in this symbolism of Zechariah 1:7-17 ?

Branch Lesson No. 5 (1958), page 2

Group 2:

The Rod is silent concerning these two: Zechariah and angel. It is now time to reveal their identity.

Zechariah questioned the angel about the horses……verse 9.

The angel answered, "I will shew thee what these be."

Notice: The chart on page 61 of Tract #6 shows the shepherd's rod in the angel's hand.

The angel is interested in Jerusalem…..verse 12.

Therefore, the angel represents the Shepherd's Rod message -- new Jerusalem, the Kingdom, and Zechariah represents V.T. Houteff.

Yes, the anti-typical Zechariah (V.T.H.) tells us in Tract #6 what the angel told him about the horses.

Does Zechariah and the angel, now identified, hold the reins – direct – the three horses on their walk to all nations?

Evidently not, for the Symbolic Code, Oct-Nov-Dec. Issue, 1938, tells us that the Lord did not then have the reins in His own hands, but that at some future time He would.

Further, since the Rod of Revelation 7 ascended while the "directing" Angel descends (E.W. 277; Rev 18:1) then

Rod not the Answer.

We must look further into Zechariah's symbolism for the identity of the One Who directs the third' Angel's message in its final "walk".

Group 3:

Where the Rod is silent concerning "Man on red horse", the BRANCH now speaks:

Man riding red horse variously termed:

1.  Man….........verse 10

2.  Angel….......verse 11

3.  Lord….........verse 13

Man is very interested in Jerusalem, for He has returned with "mercies" to build and prosper her. (verses 14-17)

Man is depicted on chart, Tract #6, page 61, as holding the "reins" of the red horse in His hands.

Man is the Lord, returned to direct the work and take the "reins in His own hands." (T.M. 300; E.W. 277; C.O.L. 79)

Branch Lesson No. 5 (1958), page 3

"…Christ shall inform His 'citizens' that He is taking 'the reins in His own hands' to set up His kingdom,..." Tract #8, page 71:1. Read Tract #8, all of pages 70 and 71.

Revelation 18:1................"...angel come down..."

Isaiah. 66:15..................."For, behold, the Lord will come…"

Ezekiel 9.........................Lord comes to threshold of house.

Isaiah 6...........................Lord comes in traveling throne.

Revelation 14:14, 15.........Lord comes on cloud to harvest.

THE BRANCH comes to reveal Himself in the Branch Message (October l955).

Yes, the Answer! THE BRANCH joins and directs the three horses (third Angel's Message) on their third walk throughout the earth, beginning at God's house. (1 Peter 4:17).

"…I (THE BRANCH) will send those that escape of them unto the nations,...And they shall bring all your brethren...out of all nations." Isaiah 66:19, 20.

MAKE NOTE:      The red horse says nothing.

"those...within should know better than to tempt themselves..." to tell THE BRANCH how to teach His message." (General Conference Special, p. 44-45).

Red Horse........................................Becomes...................White Horse..........................

Red – Before Ezekiel 9.....................-1-...................... Purity, white................Isaiah 1:18.

Righteousness as filthy rags..............-2-......................C.O.R. .......................T.G. 1:8:23.

Before purification.............................-3-..................... After purification............Isaiah 4:

Doesn't speak..................................-4-..................... Speaks.........................Rev. 9:17.

See the Seals Chart: BRANCH, second Adam rides White Horse. (Rev. 6:2; P.K. 725).

Identity revealed:

Group 1.  Miller–White.........First and Second Phase......three horses fused into one movement (6th and 9th hours) or third angel............W.H.R. 19:3..........9th hr.

Group 2.  Davidian................Third Phase...............Zechariah and angel............pre-11th hr.

Group 3.  Branch..................Fourth Phase.............Man on red horse....................11th hr.

Two Mergers:

Group 1. Type -- Judgment of the Dead:

The two phases -- 6th and 9th Hour Calls, were

"...FUSED into ONE..." White House Recruiter, page 19:3.

"…We have walked..." Zechariah 1:11

(They speak as one unit, one purpose: 3rd Angel's Message).

Group 2 & 3. Antitype -- Judgment of The Living:

This same movement (Rod) will merge into a greater one (1 S.R. 234).

Branch Lesson No. 5 (1958), page 4

GREATER ONE.......................................................................The Branch (1 S.R. 233:3)

Shepherd's Rod – antitype of John the Baptist (1 T.G.r. 36:4:1; 1 T.G.u 42:19). Elijah John the Baptist (Davidians) must DECREASE and Christ (BRANCH) must INCREASE.

"But the work of John was not sufficient to lay the foundation of the Christian church. When he had fulfilled his mission, another work was to done which his testimony could not accomplish. His disciples did not understand this. When they saw Christ coming in to take the work, (take the reins) they were jealous and dissatisfied. The same dangers still exist." D.A. 181, 182.

David (Davidians) prepared material for temple and Solomon, David's son (Branch) builds the Temple. (Zech. 6:12; 1 T.G.r. 8:24:3; Tract #8:62:0, 1.

Thus it is:

These two mergers produce 2 groups.

1.  Three Ange1's Messages in their former phase (Miller and White) merge for Judgment for the Dead (Rev. 14:6-11).

2.  Three Angel's Massages in their latter phase (Rod and Branch) merge for Judgment for the Living. (Rev. 7:1-8; 1 S.R. 234; Rev. 18:1; General Conference Special 41:1)

"There will be those among us who will always want to control the work of God, to dictate even what movements shall be made when the work goes forward under the direction of the angel who joins the third angel in the message to be given to the world. God will use ways and means by which it will be seen that He is taking the reins in His own hands. The workers will be surprised by the simple means that He will use to bring about and perfect His work of righteousness." T.M. 300.

BRANCH – the 4th phase joins third Angel.

God's servants can clearly see that this symbolism, beginning with William Miller, reveals The Branch as the 4th phase, joining the 3rd phase.

Zechariah 2 -- Three-fold symbolism:

Verses 1-5 also discloses three groups:

1.  Young man............................(verses 1, 4).

2.  Angel that "went forth".............(verse 3).

3.  Another angel.........................(verse 3).

Rod says:

1.  Young man represents S.D.A..

He tries to measure the Kingdom: limit its inhabitants (1 T.G.r. 12:16)

Branch Lesson No. 5 (1958), page 5

Zechariah talks to the young man (verse 2): the Rod message has for many years told the young man -- S.D.A., through V.T. Houteff (Zechariah) that there would be at least 144,000 in the Kingdom -- Mt. Zion -- Palestine.

Now revealed:

2.  Angel (who gave Zechariah his information – Shepherd's Rod Message) went forth and was met by another angel -- message (Zechariah 2:3).

"…this same movement (angel that went forth) would merge into a greater one (another angel)." 1 S.R., p. 234.

3.  Another angel runs! (quick work in church -- harvest shortest time) and tells young man not to measure (limit) Jerusalem to only 144,000.

"Then I saw another mighty angel commissioned to descend to the earth, to unite his voice with the third angel,…This message seemed to be an addition to the third message,..." E.W. 277.

Thus it is:

The "another angel" is THE BRANCH, the Man on the red horse, Who runs to the young man (S.D.A. -- 3rd Angel's Message of 1844) – (second commission for Davidians to give Kingdom message to young man under New Name Branch).

YOUNG MAN…..............S.D.A.….........Received first "addition" of Kingdom News from

ANGEL who went forth…........................Davidians….......................then…...............

ANOTHER ANGEL…......The Branch runs (quick work in church)… young man with final

'addition' of Kingdom News. (G.C.S., p. 26; Zech. 2:4).

It is clearly seen that since The Rod, the angel of Revelation 7, did not DESCEND, but rather ASCENDED, another must finish the work and appear according to prophecy "…another angel..." he DESCENDED. E.W. 277. It can't be other than CHRIST, THE BRANCH, Who descends from heaven as the Angel (Message) of Rev. 18:1; Ezekiel 9.

The angel in Zechariah's symbolism, verse 3, and the angel in Early Writings, p. 277, have one identifying name that shows they are the same: ANOTHER.

Identity revealed:

Young Man..…S.D.A.......-1-..…Rev. 14:6-11.…. "…one..." (3rd Angel of 1844) (W.H.R., p. 19:3.)

Angel…........D.S.D.A.…..-2-…..Rev. 7:1-8…..ASCENDED -- went forth with message of the

Kingdom, sealing of 144,000 to S.D.A..

Another Angel:

Branch D.S.D.A.…...-3-…..Rev. 18:1…..Judgment of Living first in the church.

Branch Lesson No. 5 (1958), page 6

(V.T.H. Jezreel Letter #2:5:5) DESCENDING angel meets angel that went forth – they merge into a greater movement and join third angel in a message to be given to the world.

God's servants further see that this symbolism, beginning with 1844, reveals THE BRANCH (second angel – Zech. 1:11) as the third Angel of the Judgment of the Living (General Conference Special 41:1, 1950 edition; 1954 reprint 38:5) joining the third angel of 1844. And therefore is the third angel's message. (2 S.R. 231:0; T.M. 59:1).

Lesson 30PART I --- THE BRANCH
In The Light of Zechariah 1 and 2

MEMORY VERSE: "Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the Lord shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem." Zech. 1:17.

STUDY HELP: Branch Lesson No. 5, May 7, 1958 (attached); Tract #6, "Why Perish" pp. 60-66.

STUDY AIM: To understand the different steps contained in the four-fold symbolism of Zechariah 1:7-17 as revealed through the Spirit of Prophecy today.

INTRODUCTION: "These messages (three Angels) were represented to me as an anchor to the people of God. Those who understand and receive them will be kept from being swept away by the many delusions of Satan." E.W. 256:2.

1.  In the symbolism of Zechariah 1, what three groups do we find brought to view? verses 7-17.

2.  What do the horses represent in this symbolism? Tract #6, p. 62; Branch Lesson #5, p. 1.

NOTE --- "The obvious import of the symbolism is that these 'horses' can talk and that they are serving the Lord in going where He sends them. They therefore can be symbolical only of the Lord's servant's....Inevitably, then, the symbolism depicts a Movement which goes forth with a message…" Tract #6, p. 62:2, 3.

3.  What do these horses do? Zech. 1:10; Branch Lesson #5, p. 1.

4.  Upon returning, what do the horses say to the Angel of the Lord? Zech. 1:11.

5.  What did they imply by this statement? Branch Lesson #5, p. 1.

NOTE --- "The horses' answer, 'We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest,' reveals that the movement thought its work finished and probation closed. In other words, it thought that salvation through the gospel had closed and that the preaching of it could no longer make the earth produce converts." Tract 6, p. 63:1.

6.  Who is represented by this first walking to and fro through the earth? Branch Lesson #5, p. 1.

NOTE -- "…the Millerite Movement is the only one which has gone with a message to every Christian mission in the world (The Great Controversy, p. 368), and thought, mistakenly, that in so doing, the last gospel invitation had been sounded...thereby signalizing the close of human probation...The peculiar set of circumstances surrounding the Millerite Movement prior to 1844, certifies that it is the one which is depicted in the symbolism of Zechariah 1." Tract #6, p. 64:0, 1.

7.  What commission was given to the horses upon their return? Zech. 1:17; Rev. l0:11.

8.  Which messengers are represented by the second walking to and fro? Branch Lesson #5, p. 1.

NOTE --- "…in Zechariah's prophecy, the Movement was to 'prophesy again' or to 'cry yet'; that is, repeat its mission, showing that probation was not closed...Accordingly, the Seventh-day Adventist denomination in its 1844 commission, was to 'prophesy' (teach), not to 'all', but simply to 'many', nations." Tract #6, p. 65, 66.

9.  When will be the third time these horses walk to and fro through the earth? Tract #6:66; Branch Lesson 5:1.

10.  Where do we find a record of this third commission to go teach all nations? Rev. 18:1.

NOTE --- "Then I saw another mighty angel commissioned to descend to the earth, to unite his voice with the third angel, and give power and force to his message...The light which attended this angel penetrated everywhere....The work of this angel comes in at the right time to join in the last great work of the third angel's message, as it swells to a loud cry…This message seemed to be an addition to the third message, joining it as the midnight cry joined the second angel's message in 1844." E.W. 277.

In The Light of Zechariah 1 and 2

MEMORY VERSE: "And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory." Rev. 18:1.

STUDY HELP: Branch Lesson No. 5, May 7, 1958; Chart enclosed with lessons.

STUDY AIM: To understand the rest of the symbols contained in Zechariah chapter 1, verses 7-17, which have not been revealed by Bro. Houteff.

INTRODUCTION: Since the Rod message is silent concerning the rest of the symbols contained in Zechariah chapter 1, namely Zechariah himself, the angel of the Lord, and the man on the red horse, the time has come for these symbols to be revealed by the hand of Inspiration as the scroll of Truth unrolls by the Branch in the Judgment of the Living for the church. See 2 Answerer 41:2; 42:1 by V.T.H., Great Controversy, p. 485:2; 487:2; 489:1; 490:2 by E.G.W.

1.  Upon seeing the horses what did Zechariah ask the angel? Zech. 1:9 first part.

2.  What did the angel answer? Zech. 1:9 last part.

3.  In the chart enclosed what did Inspiration draw in the hand of the angel? Branch Lesson #5, p. 2.

4.  What subject was the angel interested in? Zech. 1:12.

5.  What then does the angel represent? Branch Lesson #5, p. 2.

NOTE --- The angel having a shepherd's rod in his hand as depicted on the chart and also his interest being in Jerusalem or the Kingdom, it is easy to see that this angel represents the Shepherd's Rod message the same as the angel of Rev. 7:1-8 who comes from the east (the place where the Kingdom is to be established).

6.  Who then does Zechariah represent? Branch Lesson #5, p. 2.

NOTE --- In the symbolism Zechariah asked the angel concerning the horses which he saw, "what are these?" the angel answered "I will show thee what these be." In Tract 6 Bro. V.T. Houteff records for us what the angel told him regarding the horses.

7.  Does the angel pictured in the symbolism with the shepherd's rod talking to Zechariah, also hold the reins in his hand? Branch Lesson #5, p. 2.

NOTE --- "...the Lord is not now holding the reins in His Own hands,..." Symbolic Code, Dec. 1938, p. 5.8.

8.  What difference is there between the angel of Rev. 7 (Shepherd's Rod Zech. 1:9) and the angel of Rev. 18:1 (The Lord holding the reins Zech. 1:10)? Branch Lesson #4:4, 5; #5:2.

9.  What three terms are used to describe the man on the red horse? Zech. 1:10, 11, 13.

10.  What is the man on the red horse doing according to the chart? Branch Lesson #5, p. 2, 4.

NOTE --- "God will use ways and means by which it will be seen that He is taking the reins in His own hands." T.M. 300. Read the whole page.

11.  What comparisons are made to the Lord's coming to take the reins in His hands? Rev. 18:1; Isa. 66:15; Eze. 9:3; Isaiah 6; Rev. 14:14, 15.

12.  What name did the Lord reveal when He came October 1955? Branch Lesson #5, p. 3; Zech. 6:12; 3:8.

NOTE --- "Who is to bring this revival and reformation, this great change? – The BRANCH. And according to Isaiah 11:1 to 5, the Branch is the Lord, the Son of David." 1 T.G.r. 8:24.

13.  In verity who is it that joins the three horses and directs their work? Branch Lesson #5, p. 3.

NOTE --- "...before His return (second coming), Christ (Branch) shall inform His 'citizens' that He is taking 'the reins in His own hands' (see Man on red horse in chart) to set up His kingdom ('...Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy...Therefore...I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it...and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.' Zech. 1:14, 16),…" Tract #8, p. 71. (Paren. added)

In The Light of Zechariah 1 and 2

MEMORY VERSE: "Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He must increase, but, I must decrease." John 3:28, 30.

STUDY HELP: Branch Lesson No. 5, May 7, 1958.

STUDY AIM: To show that just as William Miller's Message (Rev. 14:6-8) announced the judgment of the Dead (Rev. 14:6-11) and Sr. White proclaimed it, just so the Davidian Message…(Rev. 7:1-8; 14:15) announced the Judgment of the Living (Rev. 18:1) and the Branch proclaims it; first to the church (Rev. 14:16, 17), then to the world (Rev. 14:18; 18:1-4).

INTRODUCTION: It is the Branch (the Man on the red horse) Who joins and directs the three horses in their final work. Prior to the cleansing it is the Man Who speaks rather than the horse. The horse He rides is red before Ezekiel 9, before the purification of the church while our righteousness is still as filthy rags. Afterwards, we find the color of the horse changed to white (Rev. 6:2) denoting purity, then it is that the 144,000 first fruits go forth with the Truth "fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners", to bring in all their brethren – the great multitude (second fruits) – into a pure church, the Kingdom.

1.  What three groups are brought to light in the symbolism? Zech. 1:7-17; Branch Lesson #5, p. 3.

2.  Why was it that the three horses represented more than one movement? Branch Lesson #5, p. 3.

NOTE --- "So it was that the sixth-hour group and message, (the first walk of the horses Zech 1:11) that of the First-day Adventists (Millerites Rev. 10:10), and the ninth-hour group and message (second walk – 'cry yet' Zech. 1:17), that of the Seventh-day Adventists (Rev. 10:11), fused into one because the message of the former was in itself Divinely designed to bring the message of latter to light." White House Recruiter 19:3. (paren. added)

3.  How do they show they are one by their answer to the Angel? Zech. 1:11; Branch Lesson #5, p. 3.

4.  For what purpose were they united? Branch Lesson #5, p. 3.

NOTE --- "... the First-day Adventists....started the year 1833, announcing that the cleansing of the sanctuary (Judgment for the Dead) was to commence in the year 1844...the Seventh-day Adventists in 1844 began to proclaim what they termed 'the investigative judgment of the dead,'… "…'the judgment was set,…the books were opened'." White House Recruiter 19, 20 (paren. and emph. ours).

5.  Who was represented by Zechariah and the Angel – the second group in the symbolism? Branch Lesson #5, p. 2.

6.  What was the work V.T. Houteff's message was to do? SR Jezreel Letter #4, p. 2.

NOTE --- "...since there was a special message for the Judgment concerning the Dead, it is even more important that there should be a special message concerning the judgment for the Living, the announcement of which is already here." S.R. Jezreel Letter #4, p. 2.

7.  What antitype did the Shepherd's Rod fulfill by this? Branch Lesson #5, p. 4.

NOTE --- "Our message must be as direct as was that of John." 1950 General Conference Special 43:4. "John the Baptist was given a work similar to ours,..." 1 T.G. 42:19. "Therefore the truth stands out boldly that the direct fulfillment of this chapter (Isaiah 40) is found in our time thus making John's work an ensample of our work – John's work the type, ours the antitype." 1 T.G.r. 36:4.

8.  What did John say about the One Who was to come after him? John 3:25-36.

9.  What did Bro. Houteff say would result from the message he brought? 1 S.R. 234.

NOTE --- "The message presented here (in the Shepherd's Rod) proves that this same movement (Shepherd's Rod) would merge into a greater one." 1 S.R. 234. (paren. added)

10.  What other type shows this same thing? Branch Lesson #5, p. 4.

NOTE --- The Davidian message prepared the material (144,000) for the temple, but it is the Branch, the Lord, the son of David, Who finishes the building of the spiritual temple. (Zech. 6:12.)

In The Light of Zechariah 1 and 2

MEMORY VERSE: "And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations,..." Rev. 7:4, 9.

STUDY HELP: Branch Lesson No. 5, May 7, 1958; 1 Timely Greetings revised #12.

STUDY AIM: To understand the three-fold symbolism of Zechariah 2:1-5 and see how the Branch comes to give the full truth of the Kingdom and to direct the finishing of the gospel work, first in the church, then in the world.

INTRODUCTION: "Only a stone wall surrounded Jerusalem in Zechariah's time. But a wall of fire is to surround the Jerusalem of our time, the Jerusalem of which Zechariah was instructed to write. It is from this latter Jerusalem that the Lord is to teach us of His ways, and cause us to walk in His paths, 'for', declares the gospel prophet, '...Out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.' Isa. 2:3." 1 T.G.r. 12:22:4.

1.  What three groups are brought to view in the first verses of Zechariah 2 ? Zech. 2:1-3.

2.  Who does the young man represent? Branch Lesson #5, p.4.

3.  What is meant by his trying to measure Jerusalem? Branch Lesson #5, p. 4.

NOTE --- " measure the city (number its inhabitants)...the 'young man' therefore represents latter day Christian workers (young, not ancient) who...imagine that the living saints in the city are to be so few that a man can number them, namely 144,000,..." 1 T.G.r. 12:16.

"To be more specific, the Laodicean angel assumes that there are to be only 144,000 living saints – a measured or a numbered company – who are to make up the Kingdom." Id., p. 18.

Note the following statement from an early S.D.A. publication to show this to be correct.

"When Christ comes to earth to gather out of it those who are true to Him, there will be found one hundred and forty-four thousand belonging to the true Israel, who will be translated without tasting death. When their cases are finally decided, or 'sealed,' they will be equally divided among the twelve tribes of the children of Israel, – Christian Israel, – twelve thousand to each tribe...The twelve gates of the New Jerusalem will bear the names of the twelve tribes of Israel, and it is reasonable to suppose that each tribe will enter through its own gate...None but Israelites will enter the New Jerusalem." – The Coming King, p. 249:2, 3.

4.  Who was represented by the angel who went forth? Branch Lesson #5, p. 5.

5.  What has the Rod message been telling S.D.A.'s for many years? Branch Lesson #5, p. 5.

6.  Who is the Angel that went out to meet the first angel? Zech. 2:3, 4; Branch Lesson #5, p. 5.

NOTE --- Plain it is to see that the Angel referred to in the last half of verse three as "another angel" cannot possibly be the same angel as in the first half of the verse. "Another Angel" here means the same as "another mighty Angel" in E.W. p. 277, which is the Lord descending to join the third angel. Positive proof is given in the fifth verse when the Angel speaks and says: "For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her."

7.  What important lesson should we learn from this symbolism? 1 T.G.r. 12:17:2.

NOTE --- "So important is the living Spirit of Prophecy in the church, as 'the young' man's experience proves, that regardless of one's zeal, sincerity and integrity, he cannot rightly serve God without It...It is therefore, high time for the church to start believing all the prophets have written, 'knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.' 2 Peter 1:20, 21." 1 T.G.r. 12:17:3.

Lesson 34PART V --- THE BRANCH
In The Light of Zechariah 1 and 2

MEMORY VERSE: "In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even everyone that is written among the living in Jerusalem." Isa. 4:2, 3.

STUDY HELP: Branch Lesson No. 5, May, 7, 1958.

STUDY AIM: To summarize the symbolisms given in Zechariah 1:7-17 and 2:1-5 and bring to light the final work of the gospel under the direction of the Branch; The Lord our Righteousness.

INTRODUCTION: "The truth and work of God in this movement commencing with the labors of William Miller and reaching to the close of probation, is illustrated by these three angels (Rev. 14:6-11)...These angels illustrate the three great divisions of the genuine movement…The three angels messages symbolize the three parts of the genuine movement." Life Incidents, (1886) pp. 306, 307.

1.  Explain how Miller's message and Sr. White's message become one? Branch Lesson #5, p. 1, 3.

NOTE --- "From this we learn that the idea in Rev. 14:8, 9, is not simply that the second and third angels followed the first in point of time, but that they went with it. The three messages are but one three-fold message. They are three only in the order of their rise. But having risen, they go on together and are inseparable." Great Controversy 685:3 (1888 edition)

2.  What symbol depicts this movement in its combined form? Zech.1:8-10; Branch Lesson #5, p. 6.

3.  In Zechariah 2 what other symbol depicts this same movement? verses 1, 4; Branch Lesson #5, p. 4, 6.

4.  Where do we find these three messages in the New Testament? Rev. 14:6-11.

5.  What does Zechariah and the angel represent? Branch Lesson #5, p. 2, 3, 5, 6.

6.  Where is the Branch depicted in Zechariah chapters 1 and 2? Branch Lesson #5, p. 3, 5, 6.

7.  Where in Revelation do we find these two messages – Rod and Branch? Rev. 7:1-8; 18:1.

NOTE --- "To get the proper understanding of the third angel's message we shall divide it into three periods: (1) Beginning of the proclamation of the true Sabbath, Rev. 14:6-11; (2) Reformation, and sealing of the 144,000, Rev. 7:1-8; (3) The Loud Cry, Rev. 18:1. The truth of the sealing (144,000) being made known, it is evident that we are in the second period. If we had not known the commencement of the third angel's message in its beginning, we would have had no message. Therefore, we must know the time of the last two periods when they came, being of no lesser importance." 1 S.R. 32.

8.  What have these symbolisms shown us? Branch Lesson #5, p. 6. See also introduction.

9.  By adding the four-fold phase (truth) to the three-fold phase (truth) what do we have? Branch Lesson #5, p. 6.

10.  Adding to this the number of the Trinity (3) what is produced? Branch Lesson #5, p. 6.

NOTE --- "I was shown three steps, - the first, second, and third angel's messages. Said my accompanying angel, 'Woe to him who shall move a block or stir a pin of these messages. The true understanding of these messages is of vital importance. The destiny of souls hangs upon the manner in which they are received.' I was again brought down through these messages and saw how dearly the people of God had purchased their experience. It had been obtained through much suffering and severe conflict. God had led them along step by step until He had placed them upon a solid, immovable platform." E.W. 258-259.

"Woe to him who may think all these wonderful designs in the beauty of perfection are just a chance, or an accident. Such a one is denying the Master Mechanic of all creation. He is paying homage to evolution (chance)." 1 S.R. 233, 234.

FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD – April 13 through April 20 beginning eve of April 12.

NOTE: "When the Saviour yielded up his life on Calvary, the significance of the Passover ceased, and the ordinance of the Lord's Supper was instituted as a memorial of the same event of which the Passover had been a type. The Passover was followed by the seven day's feast of unleavened bread. The first and the seventh day were days of holy convocation, when no servile work was to be performed. On the second day of the feast, the first-fruits of the year's harvest were presented before God." P.P. 539.

NOTE: "Barley was the earliest grain in Palestine, and at the opening of the feast it was beginning to ripen. A sheaf of this grain was waved by the priest before the altar of God, as an acknowledgment that all was his. Not until this ceremony had been performed was the harvest to be gathered." Id. 539.
