That everyone who thirsteth for the truth may obtain it, these publications are, as a Christian service, provided without charge. THE LOUD CRY OF THE THIRD
Gem Thought: "He who becomes a partaker of the divine nature will be in harmony with God's great standard of righteousness, His holy law. This is the rule by which God measures the actions of men. This will be the test of character in the judgment." C.O.L. 314. "We are all under obligation to God to understand what He sends us. He has given directions by which we may test every doctrine-' To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. But if it is according to this test, do not be so full of prejudice that you cannot acknowledge a point simply because it does not agree with your ideas." T.M. 110-111. See T.M. 119.
Of all the Scriptures in the Bible that Seventh-day Adventists should have a thorough understanding, it is Revelation, the 14th chapter of 20 verses: for in this chapter is found the very center of the Advent movement, beginning with William Miller in 1831 to this very present day. A true working knowledge of this entire chapter marks the true remnant "which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Rev. 12:17. ". . . for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Rev. 19:10.
In our study of Revelation 14 we must keep in mind that there are five angel's messages disclosed to view in this chapter, before the Third Angel's message is given with a Loud Cry. In one of the very first publications of Seventh-day Adventists, it is written, "All classes of second advent believers agree, that the angels brought to view in this chapter, represent five distinct messages, prior to the advent, or we are left without a rule to interpret this chapter ... The last two angels (Rev. 14:15, 17) are messages of prayer. We shall, no doubt, better understand them at the time of their fulfillment." The statement that there are five angel's messages in Rev. 14 was made by Elder James White. Mrs. White says, "My husband would give a doctrinal discourse, then I would follow with an exortation of considerable length, melting my way into the feeling of the congregation. Thus my husband sowed and I watered the seed of truth, and God did give the increase." 1 T. 75. "God has permitted the precious light of truth to shine upon his word, and illuminate the mind of my husband." 3T 502. "In a vision given me at Bordonville, Vt., Dec. 10, 1871, I was shown that the position of my husband has been a very difficult one. I was shown that his relation to the people of God was similar, in some respects, to that of Moses to Israel. God has given us both a testimony which will reach hearts. He has opened before me many channels of light, not only for my benefit, but for the benefit of his people at large. He has also given my husband great light upon Bible subjects, not for himself alone, but for others." 3 T. 85.
Mrs. White prophesied of another angel's message to follow the third angel and direct the 3rd message. "There will be those among us who will always want to control the work of God, to dictate even what movements shall be made when the work goes forward under the direction of the angel who joins the third angel in the message to be given to the world. God will use ways and means by which it will be seen that He is taking the reins in His own hands. The workers will be surprised by the simple means that He will use to bring about and perfect His work of righteousness." T. M. 300.
This message comes as a surprise to all God's people. Even the workers are astonished by the simple means the Lord uses to "bring about and perfect His work of righteousness." Nevertheless, it is seen that He is taking the reins in His own hands, and we can be assured the purification of the church (5T.80) and the perfection of the saints (Eph. 4:12) will be done quickly, "For he will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness." Rom. 9:28.
There are FIVE ANGEL'S MESSAGES IN REVELATION 14—(1) Rev. 14:6, 7; (2) verse 8; (3) verses 9-13; (4) verses 14, 15; (5) verses 16, 17.
THE FIRST ANGEL'S MESSAGE
"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters." Rev. 14:6, 7.
The First Angel's message came with a revelation of the 2300 day (years–Eze. 4:6) prophecy, and was given to William Miller, a farmer. See Great Controversy pp 391-408. Miller and his associates proclaimed in the spirit and power of Elijah (E.W. 233), "the hour of His judgment is come." E.W. 232:1. "I saw that God was in the proclamation of the time in 1843. And even some professional men were compelled to leave their professions to engage in the unpopular work of giving the first angel's message." E.W. 232:2. This is the first of the four angel's bound in Euphrates (river of Babylon), prepared at an hour and which is to be loosed in the sixth trumpet in a loud cry with the other three angels who are bound. See Rev. 9:14, 15. Note: Beginning with the Second advent by Miller there are five prophetic messages, but only four prophetic movements before the Loud Cry, as Miller and his co-workers gave the first two messages in Rev. 14:6-8.
THE SECOND ANGEL'S MESSAGE
"And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." Rev. 14:8.
"Another mighty angel was commissioned to descend to earth. Jesus placed in his hand a writing, and as he came to earth, he cried, 'Babylon is fallen, is fallen'. The same evidence which led them to look for their Lord in 1843, led them to expect Him in 1844." E.W. 247.
In the summer of 1844, "A great light shone upon the people of God. Then I saw these disappointed ones rise and in harmony with the second angel proclaim, 'Behold, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him.'" E.W. 248.
THE THIRD ANGEL'S MESSAGE
"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours: and their works do follow them." Rev. 14:9-13.
After the disappointment, however, a few of Miller's followers in the Advent movement continued to study with prayer and in a very short while God called Ellen G. Harmon (later Mrs. White) a girl of 17, to the prophetic office. As a result, the Third Angel's message gave birth to the Seventh-day Adventist church–Laodicea, the last denomination before the purification. It grew out of the prophetic Millerite Advent movement. Although there were many powerful preachers in many different countries such as Joseph Wolff, yet the prophetic gift was given to Miller. This is also shown by the angel bound in the River Euphrates (Rev. 9:14, 15), prepared for a day (Great day of Atonement), the time of the Investigative Judgment of the dead beginning in 1844. See G. C. 490. This is important in proving the identity of the true remnant church.
This message has been going to the world for almost 120 years "and as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man." Luke 17:26. Just what is to happen this Autumn, the end of the 120 years since the Atonement 1844, we will not say. However, ". . . if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not." Luke 12:39, 40.
This coming is not Christ's coming in the clouds of heaven, for that coming will be announced to all the world. His coming as a thief is when our names come up in the judgment of the living (G. C. 483) when, "In the balances of the sanctuary the Seventh-day Adventist church is to be weighed. She will be judged by the privileges and advantages that she has had." 8 T. 247. "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God." 1 Pet. 4:17.
Says the Lord's servant, Mrs. White, "When purification shall take place in our ranks, we shall no longer rest at ease, boasting of being rich and increased with good (the Laodicean condition. Rev. 3:13-22), in need of nothing." 8 T. 250.
Evidently the 120 years mark the end of the first phase of the Third Angel's message to the Gentiles (Rom. 11:25). The Loud Cry of the Third Angel's message comes after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The warning is, "My accompanying angel cried out with awful solemnity, 'Get ready! get ready! get ready! for the fierce anger of the Lord is soon to come." E.W. 119.
We all know that the Sunday Laws have been declared Constitutional by action of the Supreme Court. Soon, the decree will go forth that none can buy or sell save those who have the mark of the beast. Therefore, at that time the General Conference of S.D.A. cannot operate in Takoma Park without receiving the mark of the beast. Consequently, let the whole church be in much prayer and supplication that God will provide a buyer for General Conference before that time arrives, in order that G. C. may be moved to the place God is preparing for Headquarters of the work—a place where we can keep the Sabbath day holy, and at the same time do God's work, and not receive the beast's mark; for, during the Loud Cry of the Third Angel's message, "the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem." Micah 4:2.
THE FOURTH ANGEL'S MESSAGE
"And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe." Rev. 14:14, 15.
The Fourth Angel's message is the same as the one bound in the Euphrates (Babylon) and is loosed at a month, (Rev. 9:14, 15), it announces the purification of the church and setting up of the Kingdom of God—the Ark of safety for God's people as it was in Noah's day (Luke 17:26). A crown denotes a king and a kingdom and the sickle suggests a harvest–judgment.
"And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God." Amos 9:14, 15. According to these Scriptures the converted Jews will still be in Israel when Jesus comes in the clouds of heaven (1 Thes. 4:16; 1 Cor. 15:51, 52; Zech. 14:16-21). "Prophecy must be fulfilled." T. M. 475.
A few years ago it was unthinkable among us as Seventh-day Adventists, that the Jews would go back to the land God promised Abraham and his seed. This was not our message of the first phase of the third angel. As S.D.A. ministry and laity, we have not, in the past, taught that the Jews would go back to Palestine before Jesus comes; much less become the strong nation Israel is today.
The prophecy of Israel today is, "Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired; Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of the Lord's anger come upon you. Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger." Zeph. 2:1-3. At this very time all the meek of the earth are to seek meekness and righteousness, that they may be hid in the day of the Lord's anger—the great time of trouble. See Dan 12:1.
"For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent. I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord. The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord (Lamb on Mt. Zion–Rev. 14:1), is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee to whom the reproach of it was a burden. Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame. At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord." Zeph. 3:9, 12, 13-20.
These Scriptures are self explanatory. Hence, let God's remnant church take hold of the promises of the God of Israel to do it for them. But the warning to the angel of Laodicea and those who think they are rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing is, "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment
(Righteousness of Christ), that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve (revealed Truth), that thou mayest see. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, (His message), and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup (eat Spiritual Food) with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne (on earth before the millennium. Isa. 4:2-6; Eze. 36:23-38, 37:15-28; Matt. 25:31-46; 2 Tim. 4:1), even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (In Heaven Heb. 12:2) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." Rev. 3:18, 20-22.
God's people must not think for a moment that they have all the light there is for the church of God. Seventh-day Adventists are only teaching the first phase of the Third Angel's message–Judgment for the dead; whereas, the message of the Judgment of the Living–the Loud Cry of the Third Angel's message is yet to be understood. In fact, there are two more Spirit Inspired angel's messages after the third angel that the honest (wheat) in the church must learn. They will bundle the tares in the church, and put the wheat into the barn. (Kingdom Matt. 13:30). Then, the honest will in turn give the five messages to the world in a loud cry after the Holy Spirit's power is poured out upon them on the antitypical day of Pentecost. See G. C. 611-613; 8T 246.
THE FIFTH ANGEL'S MESSAGE
"And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. And another angel (message) came out of the temple (while the dead are being judged) which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle." Rev. 14:16, 17.
This message is the same as the angel bound in the River Euphrates which is loosed at a year. Please do note, that time is connected with all four of these angels bound in the Euphrates (Babylon). See Rev. 9:14, 15.
While the Lord Himself is harvesting—Judging and sealing the first–fruits of wheat—144,000 wise virgins (Rev. 7:1-8; 14:1-4), the Loud Cry message of the Righteousness of Christ (the sharp sickle of the fifth angel) is given to the church and prepares the people of God for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit's power.
The true people of God keep all the law applicable in our day. The power of the Spirit, is the crowning act of the gospel of Christ (C. O. L. 120; A. A. 39) in the last days, as it was to the 120 in the upper room, according to type and antitype. In Rev. 14:4, John calls the 144,000 first–fruits which shows outright they will receive the gift of the Spirit's power as of fire on the Feast of Weeks (Lev. 23:15-17), or Pentecost, Acts 2: 1. 'When we bring our hearts into unity with Christ, and our lives into harmony with His work, the Spirit that fell on the disciples on the day of Pentecost will fall on us." 8 T. 246.
The 144,000 could not be true first–fruits (two wave–loaves) of wheat harvest (Num. 28:26) if they were not waved before the Lord on God's Holy Feast day (Pentecost). The 144,000 will be numbered by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost which is fifty days after the wave–sheaf offering. See Lev. 23:15-17. This will distinguish those who have the Spirit of God from those who receive the false spirit, such as was demonstrated at the tenth annual convention of the Full Gospel in Seattle, Washington. See G. C. 464. Therefore, those who wish to be one of the 144,000 wise virgins (Rev. 14:4) will be wise, indeed by keeping the Feasts (1 Cor. 5:7, 8) as God has instructed His church.
The Feast Laws in their true setting is the message of the 5th angel of Rev. 14:16, 17 and synonymous with, "This message seemed to be an addition to the third message, joining it
as the midnight cry joined the second angel's message in 1844.' E.W. 277.
Christ, the Messiah, is portrayed in the Feast Laws of the Old Testament. In 1 Cor. 5:7, 8, Paul commands God's people to keep these feasts. The early Christian Church in Paul's day kept the Passover at Philippi. See Acts 2:6, also P. P. 310.
Jesus observed the Passover at the time of His crucifixion, rested in the grave on the Sabbath, ascended to heaven on the first day of the week, and as the High Priest in the Holy Place of the Sanctuary above, observed the rite of offering the wavesheaf (Lev. 23: 11), those who arose from the grave with Him. See D. A. 785; 834; P. P. 539. Fifty days later, on the Feast of Weeks (Lev. 23:15-17), the Pentecostal power was given His followers on earth. They had come to see eye to eye. The gift of the Spirit was a token their High Priest had accepted them and they were offered as the first–fruits of two wave–loaves (the finished product) to God. (Lev. 23:15,17). The 120 in the upper room on the Holy day of the Feast of Weeks are the proto-type, betokening the offering of the 144,000 first–fruits of two wave–loaves, signifying the end of the First harvest (wheat) by the Lord Himself and beginning of the Second harvest of grapes and other fruits by the Angel.
In our day, this harvest takes place under the Loud Cry of the Third Angel's message. This shows that the Feast days, as well as the Sabbath commandment given Moses for all Israel were not nailed to the cross as Christendom has taught. Rather, like the law the Emperor of Rome instituted in 321 A.D. changing the rest day from the Sabbath, the seventh day, to the first day of the week, in 325 A.D., there was a law instituting Easter in place of the Passover. However, the Bible says, "Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments." Mal. 4:4.
"And saviours shall come upon mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the Lords." Obadiah 21. Then, under the Power of the Holy Spirit they will thrust in their sickle (harvest message) in the earth. The 144,000 Saviours will come up on Mt. Zion and give the Loud Cry. "The Glory of God rested upon the patient, waiting saints, and they fearlessly gave the last solemn warning, proclaiming the fall of Babylon and calling upon God's people to come out of her that they might escape her fearful doom." E.W. 277-8.
Please take note that there are two falls of Babylon recorded in Rev. 14:8, 18:2. The first fall was when the Protestant churches had a moral fall in the summer of 1844 by rejecting the message of the first angel. See G. C. 389. The second, when "the union of the church with the world shall be fully accomplished throughout Christendom, will the fall of Babylon be complete. The change is a progressive one, and the perfect fulfillment of Revelation 14:8 is yet future." G. C. 390.
This proves that those teaching the Seventh-day Adventist church is Babylon are in error. The S. D. A. church did not exist when Babylon fell in 1844 and the second fall comes when the union of the church with the world throughout Christendom is fully accomplished. At that time Babylon, the Great, falls. This is yet future, but very, very near. 1960 marked the real beginning of the formation of the image to the beast when the Protestant reformation came to a screeching halt and Protestants stopped protesting as indicated by the Presidential election in the land of the two-horned beast.
THE LOUD CRY
"And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe." Rev. 14:18.
In the type, the 120 were imbued with the Pentecostal energy (as tongues of fire) to proclaim to the, then known world, the same truth that Jesus taught them until his ascension ten days earlier. No new message was given. As then, so it is now the angel which had power over fire (symbol of Holy Spirit and purification) does not indicate a new message. The 144,000 will proclaim to the present world the five angel's messages with the addition of the power of the Holy Spirit.
"But the days of purification of the church are hastening on a apace. God will have a people pure and true." 5 T. 80. "While the investigative judgment is going forward in heaven, while the sins of penitent believers are being removed from the sanctuary (in judgment of the living–harvest in church. Matt. 13:30), there is to be a special work of purification, of putting away of sin, among God's people upon earth. This work is more clearly presented in the messages of Revelation 14." G.C. 425.
"Not all professed Christians are Christians at heart. There are sinners in Zion now, as there were anciently. Isaiah speaks of them in referring to the day of God: 'The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions ...'" 2 T. 446.
All of the ten virgins, the wise as well as the foolish, are asleep but the cry at midnight awakens all of them. The wise move fast and get to the city in time for the marriage, but the foolish rest on their lees and arrive too late; the door is closed and the Master of the House says to their knocking, "I know you not." Matt. 25:11. Then they begin to wail. "But there are many, many in our churches who know little of the real meaning of the truth for this time. O, how many who have not sought their souls' salvation will soon make the bitter lamentation, 'The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and my soul is not saved! " 8 T. 252.
This statement shows the end of the first–fruit harvest of wheat which takes place in the house of God, the church (1 Pet. 4:17). After this harvest, the first–fruits of 144,000 stand on Mt. Zion. (Rev. 14:1-4) and give the Loud Cry to the world.
Inspiration says, "But looking beyond the smoke and din of the battle, he beheld a company upon Mount Zion with the Lamb, And again he saw 'them that had gotten the victory over the beast, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God,' and singing the song of Moses and the Lamb." 5 T. 752-3.
The Lord's servant is saying here that John saw the 144,000 standing twice. First, they were seen on Mt. Zion, the kingly palace ground, in Palestine during probationary time, "girt for holy service." A.A. 591. ". . . being the first–fruits unto God and to the Lamb," Rev. 14:4, they are ready to give the Loud Cry for the second–fruits. Secondly, he saw them standing "on the sea of glass (in heaven), having the harps of God." Rev. 15:2. This second standing is after their work of giving the law from Mt. Zion and Jerusalem (Isa. 4:2), to gather the second fruits. After they have been translated to heaven, they will be in the holy city, New Jerusalem, in the earth made new with its streets of gold as transparent glass. (Rev. 21:1, 2, 21).
