A GREAT AND DREADFUL DAY
"'The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly.' Zephaniah 1:14. And a world is to be warned." Education, p. 270.
And the church must be educated to meet the challenge. Ellen G. White encourages, "With such preparation as they can gain, thousands upon thousands of the YOUTH and those older in years should be giving themselves to this work." Ibid., p. 270, 271.
The youth with proper training can turn the spiritual world upside down and then start it off in the right direction. Youth, it is absolutely necessary you receive proper training. You have the basics of the Third Angel's Message, but there is yet more to learn from the Angel Who joins the Third Angel. Inspiration exclaims: "I saw angels hurrying to and fro in heaven, descending to the earth, and again ascending to heaven, preparing for the fulfillment of some important event. Then I saw another mighty angel commissioned to descend to the earth, to unite his voice with the third angel, and give power and force to his message." Early Writings, p. 277, by Ellen G. White.
Angels are seen going to and from heaven and earth. They are preparing for the important event of this Mighty Angel that unites His voice with the Third angel.
Question: Is this angel the outpouring of the Holy Spirit?
Answer from Inspiration: "This MESSAGE seemed to be an addition to the third message, joining it as the midnight cry joined the second angel's message in 1844." Ibid., p. 277.
Here it is seen that this angel is a message from heaven, a message of Inspiration sent to prepare us for the Loud Cry to all the world (Rev. 18:1, 2).
FIRST REQUIREMENT OF THE TRUE ISRAEL
1. The Seventh-day Adventist Church meets the standard of the true church since it observes the moral law of God (Ten Commandments) with the seventh-day Sabbath.
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou,
nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." Ex. 20:8-11.
SECOND REQUIREMENT OF THE TRUE ISRAEL
2. "And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved." Hos. 12:13. "The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the world of this law." Deut. 29:29. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is the only one since the apostles (Acts 6:2, 3, 6) to be organized with the Spirit of Prophecy – a living prophet.
"And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die." Ex. 20:19.
"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Rev. 12:17.
"...for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Rev. 19:10.
"To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." Isa. 8:20.
Ellen G. White stated that she "saw the third angel pointing upward, showing the disappointed ones the way to the holiest of the heavenly sanctuary." Early Writings, p. 255.
"The third angel, flying in the midst of heaven and heralding the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus, represents our work." Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 383.
This Inspired messenger of the Lord also stated there was another Inspired message and messenger to follow after her and join the Third Angel's Message to proclaim the fall of Babylon the Great (the nations).
Therefore, there are: "Two Temple Cleansings – Two Calls Out of Babylon." Selected Messages, Book 2, p. 117.
TWO TEMPLE CLEANSINGS TWO CALLS OUT OF BABYLON
First Cleansing – 1844
Judgment of the Dead, the call to come out of "Babylon," (the moral fall of the churches since the summer
of 1844.) The churches fell because they rejected the first angel's message by William Miller.
Judgment of the Living. Many nations (Rev. 10:11) have fallen as a result of rejecting the Third Angel's Message and have passed Sunday laws. The Third Angel has been proclaiming the law of God including the seventh-day Sabbath for over 120 years (as the days of Noah, Luke 17:26) while at the same time the world keeps Sunday.
The United States fell in 1960 when the Protestants joined hands with the Catholics to elect John F. Kennedy, a son of the Papacy, as its president. John, under direction of the Pope and with the aid of his brother, Robert, Attorney General, used their influence and the Supreme Court declared Sunday laws constitutional in May 1961.
The Image Beast of Rev. 13:11-18 was set up at that time. The goal of the Pope, the Kennedy clan, now through Edward Kennedy, brother to John and Robert (deceased), is to bring in the Sunday laws and put them in force by 1976. – a Bicentennial Edict.
"The End Is Near" – Review and Herald, Feb. 6, 1975, p. 29.
A messenger is sent to proclaim the day. "Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." Mal. 4:4-6.
This message, Elijah, is sent to proclaim the law with statutes and judgments to all Israel. He is not only to proclaim the moral law of ten commandments, but the ceremonial law also, with the statutes and judgments. It is easy to see that when Israel (the living church) is being judged Elijah turns the fathers to the children and the children to their fathers or God will smite them with a curse. (Mal. 4:6).
Therefore, it is a must that all hear the message of this messenger, Elijah! Ellen G. White says: "Prophecy must be fulfilled. The Lord says: 'Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.' Somebody is to come in the spirit and power of Elijah, and when he appears, men may say: 'You are too earnest, you do not interpret the Scriptures in the proper way. Let me tell you how to teach your message." Testimonies to Ministers, p. 475.
Elijah brings a message to purify the church, "he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi (a ministry for the Loud Cry, Rev. 14:18) and purge them as gold and silver,
that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness." Mal. 3:2, 3.
MINISTRATION OF BLOOD
In the judgment of the dead under the Third Angel's Message those who die are saved by grace through faith, "it is the gift of God." Eph. 2:8. In the judgment of the living in the church (1 Pet. 4:17), Elijah's message (Rev. 18:1, 2) joins the Third Angel. In this judgment it is necessary for the living to have a living sacrifice for sin. Therefore, they keep the feasts that show Jesus as our sacrifice and our High Priest, the Messiah – The Branch who mediates the blood of Jesus ("by his own blood he entered in" Heb. 9:12). When we pour forth the heart's desire in penitential prayers: "Such prayer will bring before the Lord of hosts the wounds of Jesus, and then will flow forth afresh the life-giving blood." Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 411.
From where does this blood come? The Spirit of Prophecy has the answer: "Jesus was clothed with priestly garments. He gazed in pity on the remnant, then raised His hands, and with a voice of deep pity cried, 'My blood, Father, My blood, My blood, My blood!" Early Writings, p. 38.
Here we see the precious blood flows afresh from the nail wounds in the hands of Jesus. Each day as we send up our penitential prayers this blood is offered in the Holy Place of the Sanctuary above by our High Priest – The Branch. This was the pattern for the earthly sanctuary for Israel under the law of Moses in the wilderness.
On the day of atonement our High Priest takes this precious blood into the Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary in Heaven before the Father for an offering in behalf of those who repent of their sins. This system of worship therefore is for all Israel who keep the commandments and the atonement.
The Advent people kept the atonement in the autumn of 1844. Now, as then, our good and merciful High Priest is bringing us back to the fundamentals. This may sound like strange teaching, nevertheless, it is Scriptural and in harmony with the Spirit of Prophecy by Ellen G. White.
She says: "I am asked concerning the law in Galatians. What law is the schoolmaster to bring us to Christ? I answer: Both the ceremonial and the moral code of ten commandments." Selected Messages, Book, 1, p. 233. You see, Brother, Sister, youth, and children, under the judgment of the dead the plan of salvation was not known whereby God's people might be reconciled to Him and live forever. How wonderful is the thought to get our sins forgiven and live eternally. Who wants to die? Why not accept Elijah's message with repentance and live until Jesus comes? Those who do accept God's plan for them will not perish but will have everlasting life.
Question: Since it became necessary for God to give Ellen G. White a vision of His law and its importance to earth's inhabitants during the judgment of the dead, is it not more important that He give Elijah a vision of Jesus' work in the Holy and Most Holy Place in connection with the ceremonial service and true worship during the judgment of the living in the house of God, the church? It is especially so, for all those who shall never die, since their salvation hinges on these two laws.
"The Christian church, on the other hand, who profess the utmost faith in Christ, in despising the Jewish system virtually deny Christ, who was the originator of the entire Jewish economy." Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 232.
"Christ, to enforce the will of his Father, became the author of the statutes and precepts given through Moses to the people of God. Christians who extol Christ, but array themselves against the law governing the Jewish church, array Christ against Christ." Review & Herald, May 6, 1875.
"Christ has not been presented in connection with the law as a faithful and merciful High Priest, who was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. He has not been lifted up before the sinner as the divine sacrifice. His work as sacrifice, substitute, and surety, has been only coldly and casually dwelt upon; but this is what the sinner needs to know. It is Christ in His fullness as a sin-pardoning Saviour, that the sinner must see; for the unparalleled love of Christ, through the agency of the Holy Spirit, will bring conviction and conversion to the hardened heart." Christ Our Righteousness, p. 127.
"Through the teachings of the sacrificial service, Christ was to be uplifted before all nations, and all who would look to Him should live. Christ was the foundation of the Jewish economy. The whole system of types and symbols was a compacted prophecy of the gospel, a presentation in which were bound up the promises of redemption." Acts of the Apostles, p. 14.
"Christ taught the gospel plan to Moses (while in Mt. Sinai) and the glory of the gospel, through Christ, illuminated the countenance of Moses so that the people could not look upon it." Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 232.
"Christ gave to Moses religious precepts which were to govern the everyday life. These statutes were explicitly given to guard the ten commandments. They were not shadowy types to pass away with the death of Christ. They were to be binding upon man in every age as long as time should last." Review & Herald, May 6, 1875.
GLORY OF LAW – VEILED
"The obscurity covering the Jewish system as a veil, was to them as the
veil which covered the glory upon the face of Moses. The glory upon the face of Moses was the reflection of that light which Christ came into the world to bring for the benefit of man." Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 231.
"Moses himself was unconscious of the beaming glory reflected upon his face, and knew not why the children of Israel fled from him when he approached them....When Moses learned that the people could not look upon his face, because of its glory, he covered it with a veil." Ibid., p. 232.
"The glory that shone on the face of Moses was a reflection of the righteousness of Christ in the law." Ibid., p. 237.
"The types and shadows of the (animal) sacrificial service, with the prophecies, gave the Israelites a veiled, indistinct view of the mercy and grace to be brought to the world by the revelation of Christ....seeing Christ as revealed in the (sacrificial) law, that illumined the face of Moses. The ministration of the (ten commandment) law, written and engraved in stone, was a ministration of death." Ibid., p. 237.
The ceremonial system or the plan of salvation in the gospel of the Son of God, was so beautiful and glorious illuminating the face of Moses that Israel because of her sins could not look upon it. Hence, Moses veiled his face with the sacrificial system of offering the earthly lamb, "but the promised Saviour, revealed in the types and shadows of the ceremonial law, made the moral law (of ten commandments) glorious." Ibid., p. 237.
"The death of Jesus Christ for the redemption of man, lifts the veil and reflects a flood of light back hundreds of years, upon the whole institution of the Jewish system of religion....The death of Christ elevates the Jewish system of types and ordinances, showing that they were of divine appointment, and for the purpose of keeping faith alive in the hearts of his people." Review & Herald, May 6, 1875.
In the law written on two tables of stone there is no nope for the sinner other than the reward of obedience. By putting Christ, the Lamb of God (Rev. 5:6-9) in the ceremonial law and obeying both laws, brings the promises of eternal life to the repentant sinner without seeing death. Faith in this system of worship, therefore, is the righteousness of Christ. We find Jesus the Lamb of God our sacrifice in the ceremonial law (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 237).
"There is no peace in unrighteousness; the wicked are at war with God. But he who receives the righteousness of the law in Christ is in harmony with heaven. 'Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other' (Ps. 85:10). Letter 96, 1896." Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 235. (Parentheses belong)
The glory of this mighty second angel (Rev. 18:1, 2) will bring the Pentecostal outpouring. And this message, the knowledge of the ceremonial system united with the Third Angel, will in
turn go to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people.
ANTITYPICAL ELIJAH RESTORES ALL THINGS
Jesus and the three apostles He took with Him up into the Mt. of Olives, had just come from the scene of the transfiguration where Moses and Elijah were present. "And his disciples asked him saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?" Matt. 17:10. See Mal. 4:5.
Why is it written that Elias must first come and announce Messiah's coming to establish His Kingdom?
The fact that Elias appeared on the Mt. of Olives and Jesus was glorified gave evidence to them that it was then time for Him to sit on His father David's throne (Matt. 25:31).
"And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, AND RESTORE ALL THINGS." Matt. 17:11. See Mal. 4:6.
Jesus promised He would send Elijah and restore all things before His coming. Restore everything that was lost through sin ("all things" Matt. 17:11). Adam and Eve lost eternal life without death when they sinned in Eden. Before Jesus comes, Elijah is to restore this wonderful privilege (Eternal Life) in antitypical Eden (Eze. 36:35), to all who want to live and not die. After this Jesus will come and take all the righteous (dead and living, 1 Thess. 4:16, 17) with Him to Heaven for 1000 years.
"The minds of the people, blinded and debased by slavery and heathenism, were not prepared to appreciate fully the far-reaching principles of God's ten precepts. That the obligations of the decalogue might be more fully understood and enforced, additional precepts were given, illustrating and applying the principles of the ten commandments....Unlike the ten commandments, they were delivered privately to Moses, who was to communicate them to the people....These laws were to be recorded by Moses, and carefully treasured as the foundation of the national law, and, with the ten precepts which they were given to illustrate, the condition of the fulfillment of God's promises to Israel." Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 310, 311.
LOOK FOR ELIJAH
Jesus explained to His disciples that before He fulfilled His promises to Abraham to give Jacob's seed (Gen. 28:10-22) the land of Canaan (Palestine) and reestablish David's throne (Eze. 34:22-24; Dan. 7:27; Rev. 3:21), He would send Elijah to inform His people (Mal. 4:5, 6).
Jeremiah explained Jesus' promise to Israel (S.D.A., D.S.D.A., and others): "And ye shall be my people and I will be your God." Jer. 30:22.
"The fierce anger of the Lord (His
second coming. 1 Thess. 4:16, 17) shall not return, until he have done it (restored all things, Matt. 17:11), and until he have performed the intents of his heart (fulfilled His promise to Abraham, Gen. 17:7, 8): in the latter days ye shall consider it." Jer. 30:24.
In the latter days David's throne is restored, "Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey: and I will judge between cattle and cattle." Eze. 34:22.
God will save His flock and they will not be a prey to the heathen nations. He will judge between good cattle and bad cattle. Judgment of the Living in the house of God (1 Pet. 4:17), 'for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi (His ministry)." Mal. 3:2, 3.
"Let both grow together until the harvest. Then the Lord sends forth His reapers to gather out the tares and bind them in bundles to burn, while the wheat is gathered into the heavenly garner. The time of the judgment is a most solemn period, when the Lord gathers His own from among the tares. Those who have been members of the same family are separated. A mark is placed upon the righteous. 'They shall be Mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Those who have been obedient to God's commandments will unite with the company of the saints in light; they shall enter in through the gates into the city, and have right to the tree of life. The one shall be taken. His name shall stand in the book of life, while those with whom he associated shall have the mark of eternal separation of God." Testimonies for Ministers, p. 234, 235.
"The tares and wheat are now commingled, but then the one hand that alone can separate them will give to everyone his true position. Those who have had the light of truth, and heard the warning message, heard the invitation to the marriage supper – farmer, merchant, lawyer, false shepherds who have quieted the convictions of the people, unfaithful watchmen who have not sounded the warning or known the time of night – all who have refused obedience to the laws of the kingdom of God will have no right therein." Ibid., p. 235.
This judgment is for the living in Israel – the church. The purpose for separating the cattle is to have a pure holy people for the Loud Cry. John saw this pure ministry, the 144,000, standing with the Lamb on Mt. Sion (Rev. 14:1). He said they were "virgins" (verse 4).
SEALING OF 144,000
Ellen G. White's very first vision, "The 144,000 were all sealed and perfectly united. On their heads was written God, New Jerusalem, and a glorious
star containing Jesus' new name." Early Writings, p. 15.
The 144,000 are marked with three seals. These three seals represent the Holy Trinity, God the Father, New Name of Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. The 144,000 receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Mt. Zion in Jerusalem just as did their type, the 120 disciples (Acts 1:15).
There are those who contend there is war in the Mideast and one might get shot. Nevertheless, the Scriptures say they are going to stand there (Rev. 14:1). Ellen G. White as well as the Bible says this 144,000 people will be protected. "At our (144,000) happy, holy state the wicked were enraged, and would rush violently up to lay hands on us to thrust us into prison, when we would stretch forth the hand in the (new) name of the Lord, and they would fall helpless to the ground." Ibid., p. 15.
What a great God and what protection! If we could only realize how our Redeemer saves us from many pitfalls each day, perhaps we could begin to understand His deliverance.
A BATH IN CLEAN WATER BY THE MASTER SURGEON
"Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean." Eze. 36:25. "Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments." Mal. 4:4. It will really be an experience to receive a cleansing from the Lord. He is "like fullers' soap" (Mal. 3:3) and when He finishes His work His people will be pure and clean. He first takes us out from among the unclean, heathen, and all other contamination and wickedness and brings us to the land He gave to our father Abraham (Eze. 36:28). He will cleanse the land also. "And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited." Eze. 36:34, 35.
A NEW HEART AND A NEW SPIRIT
"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." Eze. 36:26.
A heart operation is here brought to view that will indeed be successful. The Master Surgeon has enough money He says (Ps. 50:10-12), and being most particular He will secure the very finest equipment to do this most tedious operation. This is extremely necessary since those in need of the surgery are afflicted with a serious malady, "wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked." Rev. 3:17.
"There will be those among us who will always want to control the work of God, to dictate even what movements shall be made when the work goes forward under the direction of the angel who joins the third angel in the message to be given to the world. God will use ways and means by which it will be seen that He is taking the reins in His own hands. The workers will be surprised by the simple means that He will use to bring about and perfect His work of righteousness." Testimonies to Ministers, p. 300.
Those affected are so weakened from bearing the weight of the heavy stony-heart condition that it is necessary to feed and nourish them before the operation is performed. They must be washed and purified to assure success. Afterwards, they will be endowed with the Spirit of the Master Surgeon (Joel 2:28), and will utilize the technical knowledge learned from the experience and in great strength go out in search for the second fruits, a great multitude that no man, only God, can number (Rev. 7:9).
"Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand." "Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: Gather the people, sanctify the congregation....Let the....ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord..." Joel 2:1, 15-17.
A SOLEMN APPEAL
"I write thus fully, because I have been shown that ministers and people are tempted more and more to trust in finite man for wisdom, and to make flesh their arm. To conference presidents, and men in responsible places, I bear this message: Break the bands and fetters that have been placed upon God's people. To you the word is spoken, 'Break every yoke.' Unless you cease the work of making man amendable to man, unless you become humble in heart, and yourselves learn the way of the Lord as little children, the Lord will divorce you from His work. We are to treat one another as brethren, as fellow laborers, as men and women who are, with us, seeking for light and understanding of the way of the Lord, and who are jealous for His glory. God declares, 'I will be glorified in My people;' but the self-confident management of men has resulted in putting God aside, and accepting the devisings of men. If you allow this to continue, your faith will soon become extinct. God is in every place, beholding the conduct of the people who profess to represent the principles of His word. He asks that a change be made. He wants His people to be molded and fashioned, not after man's ideas, but after the similitude of God. I entreat of you to search the Scriptures as you have never yet searched them that you may know the way and will of God. Oh, that every soul might be impressed with this message, and put away the wrong." Testimonies to Ministers, p. 480, 481.
